DEG-DEG: Onana goalkeeper Injured in Cameroon's National Team Responsibility

NEWS: Onana goalkeeper Injured in Cameroon's National Team Responsibility

Cameroon's national team goalkeeper Andre Onana has suffered a serious injury during a training session ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia on Tuesday. The 26-year-old, who plays for Manchester United, was stretchered off the pitch after colliding with a teammate and was taken to a nearby hospital for further examination.

Onana's injury is a huge blow for Cameroon, who are currently second in Group A with six points, one behind leaders Ethiopia. The Indomitable Lions need to win their remaining two matches to secure their place in the final round of the African qualifiers for the 2023 World Cup in Qatar.

Onana's injury also adds to the controversy surrounding his relationship with Cameroon's coach Rigobert Song, who had suspended him for "disciplinary reasons" during the 2022 World Cup in Russia. Onana had reportedly clashed with Song over the team's tactics and performance, and was left out of the squad for their 3-3 draw with Serbia in the group stage. Onana later announced his international retirement on Twitter, saying that his story with the Cameroon national team had ended.

However, Onana made a surprise comeback to the national team last month, after Song invited him to join the squad for the qualifiers against Ethiopia and Zimbabwe. Song said that he had forgiven Onana and that he was the best goalkeeper in Africa. Onana accepted the invitation and said that he was ready to help his country qualify for the World Cup.

Onana's injury has sparked speculation about the cause and the extent of the damage. Some sources claim that Onana had a fracture in his leg, while others suggest that he had a concussion or a spinal injury. The Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) has not yet released an official statement on Onana's condition, but has said that they are in contact with Manchester United and the hospital.

Onana's fans and teammates have expressed their support and prayers for his recovery on social media. Onana's club Manchester United also wished him a speedy recovery and said that they were waiting for more information from the medical staff. Onana's injury is a major setback for Manchester United, who are struggling in the Premier League and the Champions League this season. Onana had joined the Red Devils in 2023 for a record fee of 52.5 million euros, but had made several costly mistakes in his debut season.

Onana is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and has won several awards and accolades for his performances. He started his career at Barcelona's youth academy, before moving to Ajax in 2015. He helped Ajax reach the Europa League final in 2017 and the Champions League semi-final in 2019. He also won four Eredivisie titles and two Dutch Cups with Ajax, before joining Manchester United in 2023. He has made 49 appearances for Cameroon, and was part of the squad that won the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. He was also named the African Goalkeeper of the Year in 2018 and 2019.
